April 2024
USA Today partnered with market research firm Statista Inc. to rank the top 500 Registered Investment Advisory Firms (RIAs) in the country. One Day In July is ranked 27th and is the only Vermont-based firm included on the ranking list.
Statista Inc. evaluated thousands of financial advisory firms across the country, narrowing the list to the top 500 which were then ranked. Statista Inc. said, “The ranking is built on a robust evaluation framework centered around two key dimensions: recommendations by financial advisors, clients, and industry experts and a firm’s development of assets under management (AUM).” Both short-term (1-year) and long-term (5-year) AUM development were analyzed.
The 2024 USA Today Best Financial Advisory Firms list was published 4.23.24. Recommendations were collected through a survey of 25,000 individuals. One Day In July paid a fee to Statista Inc. to license the use of the award name and logo. One Day In July did not pay to be considered for this ranking.
July 2024
Each year, Seven Days asks readers to nominate and then vote for their favorite Vermont businesses in the Seven Daysies Awards. The award winners were announced July 31, 2024. One Day In July was the winner of the “Best Financial Adviser” category for 2024.
Winners of the Seven Daysies Award were determined by nominations collected from April 15-28, 2024, and then voting from May 2 – June 9, 2024. ODIJ did not pay an application fee to be considered for inclusion in the nominations. While ODIJ consistently advertises with Seven Days, including during the Daysies Award nomination period, ODIJ is not affiliated with Seven Days Media.
April 2023
USA Today, describing the Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) on the list, said: “These are companies that have a fiduciary duty to act in their clients’ best interest at all times. They charge fees rather than sales commissions and employ investment advisor representatives (IARs) who are licensed to give financial advice.”
There were more than 32,000 RIA firms in the U.S. at the end of 2021. USA Today and Statista Inc. included 500 firms on this list. One Day In July is the sole Vermont-based financial advisory firm to be included.
USA Today went on to say: “Other types of financial firms, such as broker-dealers, earn commissions from selling you products – such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds – and only have to provide advice that’s suitable for their clients. That means the investments they recommend should not be inappropriate, but they don’t necessarily have to meet the client’s objectives. A broker-dealer can, for example, recommend investment products that could potentially be more expensive than competing products, allowing the person to earn a fee.”
This award is presented by USA Today and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The award list was announced on April 26, 2023 and can currently be viewed on the USA Today website.

One Day In July (ODIJ) was notified of its status as winner of the Best Financial Planning / Investment Firm in Vermont award on 4/11/24. Winners of VermontBiz's 2024 BOB Awards were determined by a survey of Vermont Business Magazine readers conducted from January 1 – March 1, 2024. ODIJ was notified of its status as winner for the 2023 award, published in the May 2023 magazine issue, on 4/10/23. ODIJ has not paid an application fee to be considered for inclusion in these lists. ODIJ is not affiliated with VermontBiz or Vermont Business Magazine.

Each year, CityWire names the top 50 RIA (Registered Investment Advisor) growers in the U.S., state by state. One Day In July was named the top grower for Vermont in 2024.
In creating the award list, CityWire considers historical Form ADV data provided by Discovery Data and uses a series of filters and screens to a) remove firms that don’t do financial planning and/or are controlled by banks or broker-dealers and b) zero in on firms that are growing in terms of both assets and employees. CityWire published the list on 08.19.24. One Day In July pays a fee to use the CityWire logo in promotional materials.
September 2023
A SmartAsset study released in September 2023 listed One Day In July among the 30 fastest growing registered investment advisory firms (RIAs) in the US.
The number of registered investment advisory firms (RIAs) has been rapidly increasing as more and more people have realized the value of working with a financial advisor who is a fiduciary on all accounts, for all clients.
SmartAsset looked at more than 1,700 RIAs for this study and ranked them based on changes in client account totals and assets under management (AUM) between 2020 and 2023.
Out of over 1,700 firms, One Day In July ranked 29th.
One Day In July started in 2016 with a single office in Burlington, Vermont. Today we have offices in New York, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania, and we service clients across the United States. As we grow, we remain committed to providing personalized service and fiduciary financial advice while helping our clients avoid the high investment fees that we often find in competitors’ portfolios. Firms were ranked based on changes in client account totals and assets under management (AUM) between 2020 and 2023. Firms were only considered if they had at least $500 million in AUM, had no regulatory disclosures related to disciplinary action, and offered financial planning services. SmartAsset released the list on 9/6/2023.

Referring to One Day In July, Citywire writes:
"This RIA owes its intriguing branding to the 2015 epiphany that inspired founder Dan Cunningham to open the firm. Its website explains that after learning about the volume of market gains investors miss out on due to a combination of poor decisions and high fees, ‘Dan had had enough. It was July 22, 2015, and on that one day in July, he decided this was going to change.’"
"In a December press release celebrating the firm’s crossing of $500m in AUM, Cunningham put it bluntly: ‘if you are paying 1% or more in fees, and many people are, we believe you are paying too much.’"
This designation was published in the "50 Growers Across America 2022" Report published by Citywire. Citywire relies on public information to compile its list of fast growing advisory firms.
