As a native New Yorker with a degree in Quantitative Economics, I began my career working in the Corporate Treasury department at Citigroup, Inc. in July 2007 (goal #1: pay off those pesky student loans ASAP!). I started out as a “Governance Analyst” in Citi’s capital markets group and was immediately introduced to the vast world of banking and finance regulations. Before long, the Global Financial Crisis wreaked havoc on the markets and main street economy, and that already massive realm of complicated financial rules and requirements expanded even more with the passage of Dodd-Frank. I eventually moved from capital markets to the capital planning group and worked feverishly to help Citigroup pass its newly required semi-annual stress tests, extremely complex firm-wide exercises that the Federal Reserve Bank uses to assess the capital adequacy of the big banks. This was high pressure, as we had failed the test in the prior year, resulting in less capital returned to shareholders.
After a decade in Corporate Finance, I was ready to start a family. To do so, I knew I needed a better work-life balance. I made my way north and leaned on my banking regulation background to secure a role as a compliance associate for an SEC registered Investment Advisory firm located in Massachusetts. Early on in that role, I passed my Series 65 and earned my Investment Adviser Certified Compliance Professional (IACCP®) designation. The Berkshires weren’t quite cold enough, so I headed to Vermont and landed at One Day In July, where I have no plans to leave because this place is HAPPENING!
That’s ok! I am here to help you. I will guide your training and ensure you have the keys to be successful in this role. You just need to be ready and willing to learn (and maybe to hear a little too much about my kids). I am forever grateful to my managers and colleagues early on at Citigroup who took the time to mentor and train me. It’s time for me to pass that on. At One Day In July, we value in-person work, and, while Zoom meetings and screen sharing can be miraculous, for me nothing is as valuable or effective as actually sitting (or standing!) with your colleagues at their desks when it comes to both training and collaboration. If you are interested in starting a career in compliance, I welcome you to apply.
